Mereta Volunteer Fire Department is the official volunteer fire department serving Mereta and surrounding rural areas of Tom Green County, Texas.

Mission

To protect life and property through trained volunteer response, safe operations, and proactive community risk reduction.

What “volunteer” means

Our members train regularly and respond when the pager/tones drop—often leaving work, home, or family events—to protect neighbors when minutes matter.

Service area

Our response area includes Mereta and surrounding rural roads and ranchland. Mutual aid support with neighboring departments may be provided when available and requested.

Home Fire Safety Basics

Protecting your home and family from fire starts with simple, proactive steps. Home fires can spread quickly, but following these basics can significantly reduce risks and give you precious time to escape.

Working Smoke Alarms: Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly by pressing the test button. Replace batteries at least once a year (or use 10-year sealed battery models). Replace the entire alarm every 10 years. Interconnected alarms (where one sounds, all sound) provide the best protection.
